Carlo Rovelli
Author of: Seven Brief Lessons on Physics, and others
Carlo Rovelli was named one of the 100 most influential “Global Thinkers” by Foreign Policy magazine in 2019, and one of the world’s 50 top thinkers by Prospect magazine in 2021. He is a theoretical physicist renowned for his work on loop quantum gravity, the nature of space and time, and the relational interpretation of quantum theory. Rovelli has also contributed to the history and philosophy of science. Born in Italy, he has worked in the United States, France, and Canada. He is a member of the Institut Universitaire de France, honorary professor at Beijing Normal University, Honoris Causa Laureate of the Universidad de San Martín in Buenos Aires, and a member of the Académie Internationale de Philosophie des Sciences. He is currently affiliated with Aix-Marseille University in France, the Department of Philosophy at Western University in Canada, and the Perimeter Institute for Theoretical Physics, and is Fractal Faculty at the Santa Fe Institute for Complexity. Rovelli received the 1996 Xanthopoulos Award for “the best relativist under forty” and the 2024 Lewis Thomas Prize for Writing About Science. His books have become international bestsellers, translated into more than fifty languages. Among them are Seven Brief Lessons on Physics (translated into more than 40 languages), The Order of Time, and Helgoland, on quantum theory. In 2019, Rovelli launched the Peace Dividend Initiative, enlisting 60 Nobel Laureates to call for a worldwide collaborative reduction in military spending.
