Paulina Chiziane
Author of Niketche, and others
Paulina Chiziane, a Mozambican writer, was born in 1955. A storyteller, a skill she learned from her grandmother, she published short stories in newspapers in her country. They speak of experiences of difficult times, hope, love, women, and Africa, past and present, which the author successfully translated from oral tradition to print. Her collaboration with the Mozambique Red Cross contributed to a more concrete understanding of the country's lived reality, which is also reflected in her writing. She became the first Mozambican woman to publish a novel when she released her first book “Balada de Amor ao Vento”, in 1990. Some of her other novels are Winds of the Apocalypse (1993), The Seventh Oath (2000), and Niketche (2002).
