Paulina Chiziane
Paulina Chiziane

Author of Niketche, and others

Paulina Chiziane, a Mozambican writer, was born in 1955. A storyteller, a skill she learned from her grandmother, she published short stories in newspapers in her country. They speak of experiences of difficult times, hope, love, women, and Africa, past and present, which the author successfully translated from oral tradition to print. Her collaboration with the Mozambique Red Cross contributed to a more concrete understanding of the country's lived reality, which is also reflected in her writing. She became the first Mozambican woman to publish a novel when she released her first book “Balada de Amor ao Vento”, in 1990. Some of her other novels are Winds of the Apocalypse (1993), The Seventh Oath (2000), and Niketche (2002).

Personal experiences transform into compelling stories, revealing how moments of reflection, challenge, and discovery shape an author’s creative journey. These narratives turn life stories into literature that resonates, captivates, and bridges the gap between personal experience and universal storytelling. Let’s meet authors whose stories are inspired by their personal journeys and how it all began. Book signing: This session will be followed by a book signing with the participating authors.
